Rehearsal 1st March

So, I missed last week’s blog! I forgot to take a video at the rehearsal an then didn’t write a blog. I’m rubbish, sorry! Anyway, I’m back now with this week’s blog post.

We are still busy preparing for our performance on 17th March. Karma Chameleon, Can’t Buy Me Love, Picture in a Frame and California Dreamin’ are all sounding wonderful and are pretty much performance ready.

We spent this rehearsal fine-tuning these four songs. ‘Karma Chameleon’ is working brilliantly with the addition of the dynamics. The fact that this is an acapella song with no backing track to keep us in time makes it even more important to keep a close eye on the conductor. This is a very quick, upbeat song and can have a slight tendency to drag a little so keeping the beat in mind and even tapping your foot is a great way to make sure that the tempo stays nice and constant. This has fast become one of my favourite Lodge Choir classics!

The harmonies in ‘Can’t Buy Me Love’ are improving at every rehearsal. The ‘clashing’ parts proved to be quite challenging at first but we’ve definitely got a good grasp on it now. As I always say during the rehearsal; confidence is a huge factor! We all know our parts really well, we sometimes just need to remember to have that confidence to sing out!

California Dreamin’ was wonderful as always. Roger made a great suggestion for some dynamic changes during the second verse which I absolutely love. We’ll go over this one again this week to remind ourselves of these dynamics.

We also revisited the beautiful ‘Picture in a Frame’ which was a special request by Paula for us to sing at her party. It was sounding gorgeous as usual and with our constantly increasing tenor numbers, the melody line was sounding stronger than ever.

Next rehearsal we’ll focus on ‘Happy’. Paula has agreed to do the solo part for this performance which I am very much looking forward to hearing. As I have mentioned before, the phrasing and rhythm of the main line seem to be the biggest hurdle of this one. The way to get to grips with it is simply to listen to it lots! It’s a great song so have a listen and a sing-a-long at home.

See you at rehearsal tomorrow! xxx
