February 15th Rehearsal

This week we started the rehearsal with ‘Karma Chameleon’. We know this one pretty well by now, so we spent some time discussing the finer details such as timing and dynamics. We put in some beautiful ‘swells’ in the alto and soprano parts during the beginning section which sounded fantastic. We also practised holding the notes for the same length of time and coming off the note together – surprisingly, very tricky! Just these couple of small details made a huge difference to the performance of the song. It sounded absolutely fantastic! We’ll revisit it again this week.

We spent the majority of the rehearsal this week on ‘Can’t Buy Me Love’. We had made a great start on this a few weeks ago and had already started getting our heads around the tricky and unusual harmonies in this arrangement. However, the alto section felt that their part was a little too high, so I (being the understanding choir leader that I am…) took it down a tone for this rehearsal and it seemed to suit them much better. Whilst this arrangement is quite tricky, there are only really two sections in the song, the verse section and the chorus section. We managed to make it all the way to end of the song which is fantastic progress for such a short amount of time. This week, we’ll go over it again in more detail, especially the verse sections. Here’s the video of our last rehearsal:

We’ll also be going over ‘Happy’ again this week including the solos, and if we have time, we’ll be revisiting one of our old favourites to get it performance ready for the 17th. See you on Thursday!
